Jim Mainland - PoetJim Mainland, Shetland author, is a poet and fiction writer who writes primarily in English. He has published widely in The New Shetlander - he is a committee member - and other magazines. His first collection A Package of Measures (2002) displays a quietly philosophical mind, coupled with genuine virtuosity, in poems such as Nibon: an elementary grammar, which was chosen by Lise Sinclair as the opening poem of her suite Ivver Entrancin Wis. Jo Jack - ArtistThough she had vague notions of doing art she was encouraged to get a "proper job" and so spent the first part of her adult life working for social services with children as well as being a mother. Seven years ago she came to Shetland where she was accepted on to what is now the BA contemporary textiles course at Shetland College. Besides painters and sculptors (most notably Naum Gabo), her work has been influenced by marine biologists at North Atlantic Fisheries College Shetland College and by the marine biologist and artist Ernst Haeckel. Working from her home in Hoswick she has established her own company Tin Shed Textiles and her work can be seen at www.tinshedtextiles.co.uk View the Creative Process10th June 2008 - JoHope you like the boat!
